Our Mission:

The Outreach Committee identifies and coordinates programs and activities that introduces NOOR Islamic Cultural Center (NIIC) to the community, promotes the understanding and respect for the Islamic culture, participates in interfaith dialogues with other faiths, and encourages volunteerism within the Muslim community as well as the community at large.

Goals & Objectives:
  • Invite community groups to visit, tour and learn about NICC

  • Encourage volunteerism and community within the members of NICC

  • Organize the following community events: - Neighbourhood Outreach Picnic - Annual community Garage Sale - Ramadan Month Special events (Neighbours Dinner, Colleague dinner, Teacher appreciation day) - NOOR Annual Ramadan Banquet - Islam 101 Introductory Class for non-Muslims - Interfaith dialogue

"Now I know to thank a Muslim when I drink my coffee in the morning" told me one of the 25 Theology Graduate students from the "Methodist Theological School" in Ohio who attended our Islam 10 class on Monday September 20, 2010 at NICC.

It was a great opportunity where 25 of future reverends and pastors were learning the truth about Islam. After the one hour presentation on the basics of Islam, we broke into multiple small groups, each group led by a Noor volunteer, where an open dialogue was established.

Volunteers included: Sr. Mariam Aboukar, Br. Jamal Sadoun, Br. Ahmad Shaltami, Br. Imran Malik and Br. Hussam Kashou.

The dialogue cemented the information given to these students and they left extremely impressed with the openness and the hospitality they received at Noor. It was the combination of the Islam Heritage posters on the walls (thanks to Br. Jamal Sadoun for donating them to Noor), the Islam 101 crisp presentation (thanks to many contributors to the presentation material), the dialogue offered by the 5 volunteers. A beautiful collective effort.

Next time we hear something negative about Islam, we need to ask ourselves: what have I done to change that?

 Wisdom of the Day
The Prophet Muhammad ( Peace be upon him ) addressed his companions on the last day of Sha`ban, saying, "Oh people! A great month has come over you; a blessed month; a month in which a night better than a thousand months; a month in which Allah has made it compulsory upon you to fast by day, and voluntary to pray by night. Whoever draws nearer (to Allah) by performing any of the (optional) good deeds in (this month) shall receive the same reward as performing an obligatory deed at any other time, and whoever discharges an obligatory deed in (this month) shall receive the reward of performing seventy obligations at any other time. It is the month of patience, and the reward of patience is Heaven. It is the month of charity, and a month in which a believer's sustenance is increased. Whoever gives food to a fasting person to break his fast, shall have his sins forgiven, and he will be saved from the Fire of Hell, and he shall have the same reward as the fasting person, without his reward being diminished at all." Narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah
